Indeed, Naturally 7 Live was a family event. Attendees all agreed they received more than their money's worth. The video takes you on a journey from Naturally 7's red carpet arrival at Grand Bahama International Airport to their stop at COOL96 Grand Bahama radio station to a short live in-concert segment. The event was presented by the student Pathology Club and was sponsored by the Osler Society. Local physicians Dr. John Clement and Dr. Kevin Bethel from the Immune Augmentation Therapy Clinic were guest speakers at the event. The IAT Clinic has been open in Freeport for 33 years and it is licensed for the experimental treatment of cancer. The following is from the IAT website: Lawrence Burton Ph.D. opened the IAT Clinic in Freeport after his many years of successful research therapy in the USA on the immune systems of hundreds of terminally ill cancer clients. With the establishment of the IAT in the Bahamas, Dr. Burton was able to further refine his treatments with the use of isolates serum cytokines and immune directive proteins from healthy people to help improve the immune system in people with cancer. Our objective at the IAT Centre is to not only restore function to your immune system but to identify any loss of function you may have in any system, and direct you to restorative and regenerative therapies for that system. You are only as healthy as your least functional system in your body. We also rely on cancer vaccines to stimulate a patients own immune system to recognize and destroy tumor cells In this video you will hear from both Dr. Kevin Bethel and Dr. John Clement, as well as a short portion of each of the student speakers. The club members presented current research about specific areas of immune system action against cancer which was informative for all of us who attended. The conference gave the students practice in presenting medical information to colleagues and professorsthis is excellent preparation for their clinical clerkship experiences which will start in the coming months. The Ross community was fortunate also to have Drs. Clement and Bethel from IAT as guest speakers, since their work is pioneering in area, said Dr. Harriet Myers, Associate Professor of Behavioral Sciences. "We often associate tumor or cancer with chemotherapy and radiation and their side effects. Rarely do we stop to think about how cancer is not normal and our bodies are designed to fight against anything abnormal. Many researchers have focused on this idea of assisting our own bodies to fight against cancer. Some even put these ideas to practical use. It was great to have Dr. Clement , the medical director at IAT share with us their research and work along with Dr. Bethel, " said Ross student, Jennifer Lee who led the organization of the conference, and was also a speaker herself. Dr. Michael Yakubovskky, Professor of Pathology at Ross University said, "In my opinion we had a breakthrough event here because we established bridges between our Ross community and the Immune Augmentation Therapy Clinic. Nassau, Bahamas - The Bahamas Weekly News Team recently visited with Bahamian bodybuilder Joel Stubbs who is noted to have the 'Best Back in the World" . When we interviewed Joel he was just about to head Joel was off to assist with the Arnold Classic (as in 'Swarchenegger') in California from March 3rd to 6th. Joel is a Bahamas Air pilot who has been bodybuilding for 14 years, and last year competed in the Mr. Olympia competition, a first for The Bahamas! Joel can bench press 550 pounds when he is in his prime condition. He is presently rebuilding after a knee injury and is on the comeback trail to compete again soon. He looks fine to us however. In this streaming video Joel shares his passion for bodybuilding, one that requires much discipline, along with giving highlights of his career and tips on doing your best in bodybuilding. We followed Joel in his workout at BodyZone Fitness Center in Seagrape New Providence, where he works out with his training partner Delroy Dennis, who himself is an up and coming national contender in the sport. Joel Stubbs has been on the cover of Muscle Magazine more than once, and has his own column in the magazine. Joel is truly an inspiring Bahamian athlete!

2010 Star Western Hemisphere Sailing Championships to open: Sir Durwood to compete in Harry Knowles Regatta

Nassau, Bahamas - The Bahamas Weekly News Team was on the road again recently and visited with Bahamas sailing legend, Sir Durwood Knowles.

Listen as Paul Hutton-Ashkenny, Co-Chair of the upcoming Star Western Hemisphere Sailing Championships speaks about the event which is set for Nassau from April 10th to 17th and will open with the Harry Knowles Regatta on Tuesday. 35 boats are already registered for the international championships which has been in The Bahamas previously in 2005. The Star Class is the top class in sailing and many of those participating will be using this competition as a warm up to the Olympics.

The exciting news is that Bahamas grandfather of sailing, Sir Durwood Knowles will participate and sail one more time as a competitor at the age of 92 years!

Competing for The Bahamas in the Star Western Hemisphere will be the team of Mark Holowesko and Billy Holowesko.

Hutton-Ashkenny goes on to explain how the sport of sailing is developing in The Bahamas.

Freeport, Bahamas - A special reception was held on board the Bahamas Celebration owned by Celebration Cruise Lines on March 24th, 2010. The vessel began sailings on March 16th every other day between Palm Beach, Florida and Grand Bahama Island. Bahamas Celebration lays in port on either side for approximately 18 hours. Guests and local dignitaries received a ship tour and were treated to lunch in the full service and upscale Crystal Dining Room after a plaque exchange took place in the Ocean Breeze Lounge. The Bahamas Weekly was on hand to record this important event. In this video you will hear the entire speeches from the Hon Neko Grant, Minster of Works and Transport. Magnus Alnebeck, President of the Grand Bahama Tourism Board gave remarks on presented a plaque on behalf of the Grand Bahama destination to Captain Peter Fielding and Bahamas Celebration President, Charlie Kinnear. You will also hear from Michael Weber, General Manager of the Our Lucaya Resort; the Junior Minister of Tourism, Winnae Hunt at her first official event; and from Karen Seymour of the Ministry of Tourism, Grand Bahama. An invocation was given by Rev. Arnold Pinder and speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation was Gary Gilbert of the Freeport Harbour Company also gave remarks and presented a plaque to Bahamas Celebration. Final words of welcome were made by Jeremy Cafferata, President of Freeport Ship Services. The programme was led by Betty Bethel, GM of Business Development for the Ministry of Tourism.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island The 2nd Annual NYC Comedy Club event commenced Friday March 12th 2010 at The Treasure Bay Casino to a standing room only crowd. Midway through the show comedian Ray Ellin came on stage to do his routine, it was at this point during the show that uncontrollable bouts of spontaneous laughter erupted far beyond even what Ray anticipated as he proceeded to concoct an impromptu routine that featured the duo of twin brothers who are , amongst other things, the principals behind the proposed Yellowfin Tuna Net Fishing venture on Grand Bahama Island (The Bahamas Pelagic Aquaculture Tuna Fishing Program). Unbeknownst to Ray, he haphazardly connected with the audience with irony and humor that resounded across the length and breadth of this island and beyond. In his routine, Ray probed the twin brothers with questions like: What kind of work do you do? Are you some kind of mobsters? On and on he went amidst uncontrollable laughter so unfathomable to him that he finally bellowed: WILL SOME ONE TELL ME WHATS GOING ON? This town meeting moderated by Dr. Pamela Etuk was much anticipated as both panelists and audience alike openly discussed the merits of purse seine netting and its ecological and economic affects on our tourism based archipelago nation. The audience included representatives from The Billfish Foundation, other Bahamian Aquaculture programs, marine biologists, sport fisherman, tour operators, taxi drivers, divers and a multitude of concerned citizens from various walks of life. During this first segment you will hear from and see Fr. Curtis Robbinson's opening prayer, a musical selection by Little Joe Cartwright and close friend David Wallace's humorous anecdotes.

For over 30 years, Frank Penn had been a major contributor to the landscape of Bahamian music and theatre, establishing a legacy for himself that is only surpassed by that of his father, Simpson Penn.

Frank Penn was born and spent most of his early childhood in Nassau, where his most cherished memory was playing in the Bugle Band of the Boys' Brigade. He later relocated to Grand Bahama in 1963 and purchased the Bunting Studio in 1973.

Frank has been the owner of the GBI Recording Studios since 1975, and has churned out music and stage productions too many to name, but each one a memorable and lasting addition to Bahamian history and culture.

It was a week of sailing with erratic conditions from day to day, and record low temperatures for The Bahamas. The event was hosted by the Grand Bahama Sailing Club. The concert took place Thursday, December 4th, 2008 at 8pm at Church Of The Ascension on West Beach Drive. Freeport, Bahama. This was an event worth attending, be sure to press the play button to enjoy the performance.

Background information on Handel

Handel wrote Messiah in twenty-four days in August 1741 and put it aside, saving it for the right moment: a concert on March 13, 1742 In Dublin in aid of two hospitals. In Handel's lifetime, he dedicated the performances of Messiah to charity and when he died, he left the Score, a set of parts, and the Proprietary or Copyright property to the Foundling Hospital in England, a charity that benefited orphaned Children. It is known today as The Thomas Coram Foundation for Children and is still Dedicated to homeless children. Messiah, to Quote the 18th Century music historian Charles Burney, fed the hungry, clothed the naked, and Fostered the orphan. It is our privilege to perform his beautiful music annually and to honor Handel by donating the proceeds to a local charity this year, the Salvation Army will benefit. We will present the Christmas section from part one of Messiah consisting of five scene intact, plus the Hallelujah chorus. We sincerely thank you for your support.

Grand Bahama Island - Get a glimpse into Spring Break in Freeport, Grand Bahama on a wild night in March with more than 2000 students on Island via such companies as Xtreme Trips, Student City, and Spring Break Celebrity Entertainment with Inertia Tours. The travel company spokespersons seen in this video explain why they chose The Bahamas for their student travel destination. After a hiatus from hurricanes of 2004, and reflecting back on a time when 2000 students was nothing compared to the numbers that used to grace the island, it is good to have the revenue back on Grand Bahama even for a short time out of the year. In this video you will hear from Karen Ferguson-Bain, Production Coordinator of Port Lucaya Marketplace who explains how valuable Spring Break students are to the local economy and how her company prepared to receive the student travelers. Their business offers other activities off of the Marketplace venue like beach parties and snorkeling and water activities. Also seen is Britton Clarke, owner of Sparky's Bar who interestingly ended up on Grand Bahama via her previous career with the company Spring Break Travel, which in her last year of working with them carried over 12,000 students to Grand Bahama. Port Lucaya Marketplace and Count Basie Square offers a unique destination for Spring Breakers as it provides a one stop shop for all the students, no matter which travel company they've arrived with, to party and socialize in one location. By 11pm most Spring Breakers are at the Port Lucaya square. It offers plenty of room for them to dance together, with many bars and restaurants to choose from. Host hotels are also situated close by so travel by car is most often not necessary. Security at Port Lucaya is top notch, and the local police department has an office adjacent the Marketplace. Another venue seen in this video is The Prop Club which is located on the Westin and Sheraton property at Our Lucaya Resort. Jorge Brouwer, owner of Xtreme Trips explains how he approached Sheraton to receive his students travelers this year, and how he anticipates numbers growing in 2010. Nassau, Bahamas - American actor, known to be 'the sexiest man alive' received a career tribute award at the 6th annual Bahamas International Film Festival on December 13th at the Balmoral Club in Nassau. The event was sponsored by Swiss private bankers, Lombard Odier Darier Henstch and The Balmoral .

The Bahamas Weekly News Team, media sponsors of the event, were on hand for the red carpet arrival and are pleased to present this VIDEO coverage containing an interview with Mr. Depp, along with comments from Sir Sean Connery, a patron of the Festival who also lives in The Bahamas and presented the award to Depp. You will hear from founder and executive director of the festival, Leslie Vanderpool, as well as view scenes from the tribute for Depp.

In a beautiful outdoor theater on the property of the Balmoral, Johnny Depp received a hand carved award of a fish, which depicts the BIFF logo and was created by a Bahamian artist. Depp also received a framed portrait drawing of himself, unexpected by all, from a young Bahamian artist in the audience during the question and answer session moderated by author Doug Brinkley.

When asked how he felt about receiving the award he said he was "a little stupefied by t he notion" of winning awards.

"The first thing I say is 'why?' I just go to work like anyone else, except my job is a little stranger," added Depp

Depp revealed that he would be spending Christmas on his private Bahamian island in the Exumas.

"This place is as close to paradise as anywhere you can get," he said about The Bahamas, and he said he'd be pleased to do any work in a place he loves to be.

He said he will be back in his his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the next Pirates of The Caribbean film in summer of 2011.

The evening ended with a montage of Depp's greatest roles from Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd and of course Jack Sparrow of Pirates of the Caribbean.

After the tribute a private dinner was held in his honour at The Balmoral for Depp, Connery and special VIP guests.

This engaging 8:20 video presentation produced by Mackeymedia, takes you behind the scenes for a birds eye view of the creative process involved in the production; "A Question of Faith: The Journey of Freetown," an historical perspective told through fibre art and an exhibition scheduled for November 12 in Grand Bahama. The exhibition gives the descendants of that old eastern settlement a quilt with enough warmth to cover their expansive histories as we journey from New Freetown, to Infantview cemetery to Water Cay and on to Sweeting's Cay; where we spoke with healthy 104 years old resident; Firstina Baillou.

A project of the Grand Bahama Heritage Foundation, the exhibition is the result of a seven-month artistic process, historical documentation and cinematic recording of the history of the old Freetown by the inhabitants of new Freetown. Once located by the coast, all that is left of old Freetown is a cemetery called Infantview for its first inhabitant a baby and the ruins of an old house. The settlement was one of the first known communities of freed slaves on the island.

Old Freetown is one of the oldest freed slaves settlements on Grand Bahama Island. After the Grand Bahama Port Authority restructured the area in the 1960's, the people of Old Freetown moved to New Freetown. Old Freetown still holds remnants of the foundation stones of some of the earliest homes on Grand Bahama Island.

In 2007, in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the Transatlantic Slave Trade act, The Grand Bahama Heritage Foundation presented an art Exhibition entitled Freedom Call . "As we were doing our research, we found it extremely difficult to obtain written information about Old Freetown , we then made the decision that we would begin our exploration and research in Old Freetown."

The Bahamas Weekly News Team is pleased to present herewith a live solo saxophone performance by Bahamas leading woodwinds musician, Ralph Munnings along with photos taken at the gala by Robbin Whachell. The night began with cocktails and champagne by the Neptune pool, and then the group moved over to Pelican Bay's Canal House where an amazing display of cultural entertainment and young talent took place upon the buildings balconies even though it is still under construction. Kevin Tomlinson led the Grand Bahama Youth Choir into their performances providing a treat for those in attendance, the adjacent taxi stand, and passing tourists. With the use o lighting, trumpeters appeared and sounded in one area of the building, moving on to drummers appearing and beating in another area of the building, with the large choir group situated across the second floor veranda. After the choir performed the general manager of Pelican Bay at Lucaya, Magnus Alnebeck took the mic and spoke briefly thanking this guests for their continued partnerships. The choir descended to the ground floor and led the guests Junkanoo-rush-style through the parking lot and entrance way of Pelican Bay to end up around their other pool by Sabor Restaurant and Bar where Shelly Carey and Tru Music were performing Jazz melodies. The guests were treated to copious amounts of sumptuous appetizers by Sabor Restaurant and mixed, mingled or danced away the evening.

The BAAI event at the Astoria World Manor in Queens was well attended and those there were able to give a 'shout out' to family back in The Bahamas by way of The Bahamas Weekly video coverage . Many young Bahamian cadets from SUNY Maritime College were at the event to represent and support the scholarship recipient, Keia Armbrister, also a student at the school.

Entertainment for the evening was provided by the band, 2 the Limit and by DJ DC from Dragons at Atlantis. Also in attendance was Miss Teen Bahamas 2008.

Interview with Bahamian in NY, Chris 'Kazi' Rolle of The Hip Hop Project

Brooklyn, New York - The Bahamas Weekly was recently on the road in the Big Apple and had the opportunity to catch up with a Bahamian living in New York, Chris 'Kazi' Rolle at the Callador Cafe. In May 2008 we had the opportunity to conduct phone interview this talented and enlightening young man. Kazi had a documentary film made about his life called The Hip Hop Project, which was produced by Queen Latifah and Bruce Willis. The film also caught the attention of Hip Hop mogul Russell Simmons who had a short part in the film.

Kazi has taken his film around the world for screenings and was also featured in the Bahamas International Film Festival a few years ago. The film was also showcased on the Sundance Channel this year. This fall marks the ten year anniversary of the film and the project, which involves social service mentoring by expressing oneself 'positively' through Rap and Hip Hop. A tag-line in the film is, "If the whole world were listening, what would you say?"

Kazi's current passion is delving into relationships to find out what makes them tick. He says, 'Maybe if my parents had a better relationship, ...my life would be different". He recent hosted "Together Apart" along with ABC star Malik Yoba, which presented relationships through skit, film, and open dialogue with an audience.

In this video Kazi gives a brief rundown on how he ended up living in New York, and explains what The Hip Hop project is and upcoming plans for the anniversary. He ends with expressing his interest in relationships, and how he wants to share that interest.

DPM Brent Symonette announces positve changes at Grand Bahama Passport office

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island Friday, September 11th, 2009 Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs The Hon. Brent Symonette met with the media on Grand Bahama Island at the passport office to announce positive changes slated to occur at the passport office that will facilitate a faster turnaround time for the delivery passports.

The passport office on Grand Bahama Island has come under tremendous fire by members of the Grand Bahama community due to what has been described as poor service, long lines, slow turnaround time and the inconvenience of having to reacquire previously submitted documents. In some instances passport turnaround times have been greater than eight months.

To address the aforementioned mentioned issues, Minister Symonette announced that The Freeport Passport office has: relocated to a larger space, hired additional staff, increased the number of phone lines, returned most of the old passports from storage back to the Freeport office, purchased two more machines to speed up the production of passports; one of which will be dedicated solely to the production of passports for Grand Bahamians. Further, The minister went on to say that the Freeport office is now able to do enrollment, data entry, third level and final level approval in Freeport without having to go through Nassau, all within a week and a half. Production of the actual passports themselves according to the minister should take approximately a week.

Also announced by Minister Symonette was the coming online of the Miami passport office September 1st, which will also have the same abilities as the Grand Bahama office.

Ross University Bahamas begins 3rd Semester

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - On September 4th, 2009 Ross University Bahamas commenced its third semester since officially opening in January 2009. New students were greeted with breakfast and a full day of on site orientation, where they learn about all aspects of their academic and island life including the Ross hurricane preparedness plan while in Grand Bahama.

Faculty and administration were introduced to the students. Members of the Grand Bahama Health Services and doctors from the Rand Hospital who are participating in the Clinical Education Program with Ross were also introduced. Dr. Frank Bartlett, Chief Medical Officer, Rand Memorial Hospital was on hand to speak directly to the students and introduce his team.

Ross University operates three semesters a year which begin in January, May and September. In between semesters the students have a short 10-day to two-week break, and often this time is spent moving to their next Ross University academic location which could be either Dominica, West Indies; Miami, USA; Freeport, Bahamas; or Saganaw, Michigan, USA.

Nassau, The Bahamas - On August 12th, The Bahamas Weekly News Team attended the Miss Universe Bahamas' Fashion Showcase held at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort on Cable Beach. We are pleased to bring you this video coverage.

You will see 84 beautiful contestants parading down the catwalk wearing seductive Bahamian designs and swimwear to the music of Bahamian band, Visage. The Bahamian designs of Raquel Turnquest-Garcia of Rachel's Boutique; Basheva Eve of La Maison de Besh of Grand Bahama; and Sabrina Francis of Se'B Fashion Designing are showcased. Miss Universe 2008, Dayana Mendoza and Charles Sealy, who both emceed the show are wearing designs by Brynda Knowles.

Through the collaborative efforts of Leo Stakos of FishTV and Ambrose Morris, manager Communications Bahamas Ministry of Tourism office Ontario Canada, FishTV chose to bring the world famous actor to the destination of Grand Bahama Island to record their show.

Dr. Mary Coleman, Dean, Ross School of Medicine was on hand to present Mrs. Cooper with her award and bonus remuneration in front of fellow employees and faculty of Ross University at the Freeport campus. Mrs. Cooper is the first employee from the Bahamas campus to receive this esteemed award. The Ron Taylor Award, named after a chief executive officer of DeVry Inc, is an annual award that goes to DeVry or Ross University employees who have gone above and beyond their normal job function while still completing all required duties of their position. The award goes to those who have truly exceeded performance expectations for the year. "The Ron Taylor Award is one of DeVrys highest employee recognition awards. As our longest Bahamian employee, Mary has consistently gone above and beyond the responsibilities of her job to provide outstanding service to the entire Ross community. She is always willing to do whatever possible for the benefit of our staff and students, without having to be asked. She has also been instrumental in helping us get to know many people in this community. This is a recognition she richly deserves," said Sandi Cutler, Vice President Planning and Business Development. When asked how she felt about receiving the award, Mary Cooper had this to say , " I was totally shocked; but at the same time I was humbled and appreciative of being chosen for the award, especially now during my first year with Ross University. Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - On July 31st, 2009 the second Dean's List for students of the Ross University Medical School, Bahamas campus were acknowledged in an award ceremony with the Dean of the School of Medicine, Dr. Mary Coleman.

The Ross University Dean's lists is for students who receive all A's in their courses for two consecutive semesters and they remain on the Dean's list as long as they maintain a B average in subsequent semesters. The Deans List is posted every semester as soon as grades are available from the previous semester.

Semester 3 recipients are Mark Floyd, and Benjamin Wayment; and in semester 4 the recipients are Dana Price, Moses Wananu, Leslie Powell, Knema Rezaei, Anas Saleh, Daphne Scaramangas, Robert Westbrook, and Stephen Smith.

"The curriculum at Ross University School of Medicine is accelerated and quite rigorous. We are proud of students who make the Deans List; they deserve recognition for the academic efforts to accomplish this level of learning, said Dr. Mary Coleman, Dean of Ross University.

The students received their certificates from Dean Coleman, assisted by Dr. Michael Robinson, Assistant Dean, Curricular & Faculty who also offered opening remarks. En couraging words were offered by Meg Osman, Director of Student Services. A toast and remarks was given by Dr. Harriet Myers. The students, along with a few family members and faculty celebrated with food, sparkling apple cider, and cake.

Paradise Island, The Bahamas - No question about it, the Chopard and Versace red carpet gala event on Friday, December 5th, at The Cloisters, One and Only Ocean Club was a true taste of Hollywood in The Bahamas! The Bahamas Weekly News Team was on hand as the who's who of Bahamian society, and avid Festival supporters turned out to mingle with independent film makers from around the globe.

Guests arrived by limousine and courtesy shuttles, and were greeted with flutes of champagne as cameras flashed and rolled. After having their photos taken (everyone is treated like a star at a Chopard/Versace event!) people floated up the red carpet into Cloisters which looks like a Greek temple in the sky. There was an endless flow of sumptuous nibbles and cocktails as the gracious hosts, the Chee-a-tow family of Chopard and Versace Bahamas, and the Bahamas International Film Festival team headed by Leslie Vanderpool, assured that everyone was well taken care of.

The highlight of the evening was the world-class Versace fashion show set against the backdrop of the bay as models glided effortlessly down the catwalk showcasing the 2009 Versace line adorned with Chopard jewelry. The look was clean, fitted, sophisticated, yet versatile. The flowing gowns were to die for! Paul Beck (ex-husband of Donatella Versace) of Versace Milan was even in town for the event. The show went off without a hitch.

The grand finale was an explosive fireworks display that illuminated the sky.

Grand Bahama Island - Saturday June 20th, 2009, The Bahamas Weekly News Team had the amazing opportunity to experience Grand Bahama Regatta 2009 out at sea.

Although there was little wind and rain came down at times, nothing can compare to being out at sea with the sloops during this serene cultural event. With Captain Don Delahay and first mate Cameron Mackey at the helm, the ride was smooth and there was ample opportunity to capture great video footage, photographs and interviews with sailors in their natural environment on the water.

With copious quantities of Sands Beer on board, we traversed the calm seas along side " The Island Gal" skippered by Marty Bullard and sponsored by Grand Bahama Island based, Bahamian Brewery & Beverage Co., the creators of " Sands Beer."

Freeport, Grand Bahama - This is an exciting time for the Islands of the Bahamas, when on August 1st; this country will host the 2009 Miss Universe pageant. Actually, we are the smallest country to host this international event. On August 9th, Grand Bahama Island will welcome all of the contestants, representing 88 countries from around the world, who are participating in this event. The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism in partnership with the Grand Bahama Port Authority, will host the Miss Universe contestants in a swimsuit presentation called; "Perfection in Motion." This will take place on the great lawn of the Radisson Our Lucaya Resort amidst other activities during their brief visit.

The contestants will arrive on Grand Bahama Island on Sunday, August 9th to a red carpet welcome experience. They will be greeted by the musical voices of the Grand Bahama youth choir as they sip tropical refreshments. Immediately after arrival, the ladies will enjoy a world-wind tour of our premier facilities and attractions. They will begin by having breakfast at the Grand Bahama Yacht Club, followed by a tour of the Garden of The Groves; and then enjoy local entertainment at the Count Basie Square, Port Lucaya Marketplace. Their visit will culminate with Perfection in Motion, a two-hour swimsuit presentation on the great lawn of the Radisson, Our Lucaya Resort, beginning at 5:00 P.M.

Tickets for the swimsuit presentation are now on sale at Gizmos and Gadgets, in the Compusec building, downtown Freeport, at a cost of $50.00. On the day of the event, tickets will also be available at the Manor House at the Radisson Our Lucaya Resort and the lobby of the reef village at Our Lucaya, formerly known as the Sheraton.

Partnering with the Ministry of Tourism on the event is the Grand Bahama Port Authority. Representing the GBPA at the press conference was Derrick Newbold. Earnestine Moxyz was on hand to represent the Radisson Our Lucaya Resort; Tyrone Fraiser for the Grand Bahama Yacht Club; Lana Smith for the-Garden of The Groves; Karen Bain of Port Lucaya Marketplace; and Kirk Smith of Gizmos & Gadgets.

The Ministry of Tourism has a local sweepstakes component to this event, which includes an opportunity to win a 50 Plasma TV from Furniture Plus and tickets to the Miss Universe events. Entries can be in the form of essay and video with further details on line at Tourism Today.com. Grand Bahama Island - On August 25th, 2008. The Grand Bahama Development Company (DEVCO) and UNEXSO hosted a wrap up press conference for the visiting Explorer's Club Flag Expedition at Petersen's Cay. A six-member crew of New York Citys distinguished Explorers Club (TEC) led by Marine Biologists Drs. Stefan Harzen and Barbara Brunnick, and Science Writer Joe Frey had just completed their eight-day Flag Expedition to Grand Bahama Island. The Explorers Club is an international multidisciplinary professional society dedicated to the advancement of field research and the ideal that it is vital to preserve the instinct to explore. Since its inception in 1904, the Club has served as a meeting point and unifying force for explorers and scientists worldwide.

Watch and listen as Dr. Harzen, President and CEO of the Taras Oceanographic Foundation,explains what was accomplished during their visit and the plans for the project into the future.

Also giving remarks is Graham Torode, President, DEVCO; Nakira Wilchcombe, Environmental Manager, GBPA; Terrance Roberts, Director Business Development & Communications, GBMOT; Andre Cartwright, Sustainable Tourism Development Officer, GBMOT; and Linda Osborne, General Manager, UNEXSO. Mr.

Torode completes the video by making a plea to Grand Bahamian residents to ensure we all do our part to care for and keep our most valuable resource, our environment, pristine for our guests and future generations.

Grand Bahama Island In an effort to keep community leaders updated on the progress and future development of the Ross University Bahamas campus, the president of Ross University, Dr. Thomas C. Shepherd hosted an informal luncheon at the Westin Hotel on Wednesday, October 1st.

Accompanying Dr. Shepherd were senior members of his management team, those being Dr. Nancy Perri, Vice-President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Mary Coleman, Dean, Ross University School of Medicine; Sandi Cutler, Vice President for Planning and Business Development; and Dr. John Daley, Campus Administrator.

Approximately 40 invited guests were in attendance to listen to a brief progress report by Dr. Shepherd, who touched upon the construction at Seahorse Plaza, which happens to be ahead of schedule; their hiring progress, which is in full swing with over 4000 applications to Ross job postings thus far; and the recent launch of their housing registry to ensure their students, faculty and staff are well settled in prior to classes commencing in January.

Dr. Shepherd was quoted in saying, We got here today, through the extraordinary contributions and efforts of many people including many in the room. I asked everyone here today to say thank you, to share the good news, so that you can look at each other, and with us feel good about what we are creating together.

In just two months since our announcement, we have come to know this community, its people, and its resources even more deeply. We have just begun to begin. We need your help not only to succeed in our work, but in helping us be an important part of the community as a whole.

In January we will open our doors, and Ross University will have completed the first phase of its history in Grand Bahama. Over the next year Ross enrollment will grow steadily, a little more each semester. In about 18 months we will begin construction of our new campus, and over this time we will hire additional staff, including many additional local residents.

In January will be able to say, this is a modest example of what we can accomplish, of what Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, and the nation of The Bahamas can accomplish when we work together, completed Dr. Shepherd.

COB Grand Bahama Campus set to begin construction

Grand Bahama Island - College of the Bahamas president, Janyne Hodder announced at a press conference on Friday, September 12th that construction will commence on COB's new Northern Campus to be built on Grand Bahama.

The $8.4 Million, 40,000 sq. ft. campus will be located on Grand Bahama Highway, over the bridge on property donated by the Grand Bahama Port Authority.

The first phase of construction is set to take approximately fourteen to eighteen months for completion. Reef Construction has been contracted to do the work.

In this video listen to Mrs. Hodder as she speaks about COB's excitement of having the project move ahead after ten years in the making, as well as how it will allow for expansion of their programs, and of course their capacity.

You will also hear from architect Dirk Saunders, of Jackson Burnside; Vernon Wells, president of Reef Construction; and Felix Stubbs, chairman of the Grand Bahama Port Authority

With this great news and the recently announced new Ross University campus coming on stream, Grand Bahama Island is poised to become a center for higher learning.

Grand Bahama Island - The 1st Annual Authentically "Grand" Bahamian Gift and Craft Festival was held on Friday, April 4th at 6pm at Taino Beach, and was a huge success. Artisans from Grand Bahama and throughout The Bahamas were on hand to show off their wares. The event was officially opened on Friday evening with a ribbon cutting ceremony and presentations, all under the distinguished patronage of The Minister of Tourism & Aviation, The Hon. Neko Grant.
